Abstract

This paper analyzes the accounting treatment that Netflix applies to audiovisual content, either under the license format, or original content produced by them. From that, management accounting discusses the validity of the criteria used, especially the concept of marginal contribution and the variability of the factors, and then the audiovisual content as capital good is analyzed from the General Cost Theory. It is concluded that, despite using financial accounting standards, the concepts applied by Netflix for the amortization of its content are acceptable for the management accounting and specifically the General Theory of Cost.
